VISIT TO UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD

We took a bus to the University of Salford. There, we met Dr. Omar Ariff, a former lecturer at University Putra Malaysia and is currently a lecturer at the University of Salford. Before touring around the university, we had a chance to meet up with few former lecturers to Dr. Rahim who are currently still teaching there. We are very honored to be able to meet with the dean, Professor Sunil Vadera and he was so glad that we chose to visit his university. We were then brought to see a Rolls Royce engine that was no longer in use and was kept there. Among the laboratories we had visited were the aerodynamics lab. This lab contains low speed tunnels and supersonic wind tunnels. In addition, for their control dynamics lab, it is equipped with flight simulator and
programmable control experiments for the aerospace/aeronautical engineering students. Currently they have the Merlin MP250-T Engineering Simulator. This simulator is used to support engineering design modules, such as those involving aerodynamics and control systems by giving a more practical experience of aircraft design tan a traditional theory and laboratory approach. The simulator is a fully-enclosed single sear capsule mounted on a moving 2-degree of freedom platform which incorporates cockpit control, integrated main head-up display and two-secondary instrumentation display panels. Not only that, they also have the Elite Flight Training System used for flight operations training. University of Salford also has quite convenient and well-equipped facilities that benefits the students. Before we left, Dr. Omar told us that he was very proud of us UPM students to organize such programme just to visit the universities here in United Kingdom to see the facilities available that we cannot get to use or even see back in UPM. We thanked Dr. Omar for his time and his warm welcome and we are looking forward to see him back in UPM in the near future.
