AEROS UPM - SHEFFIELD MALAYSIA STUDENT ASSOCIATION (SMSA)
AEROS UPM - AEROS SOCIETY,
UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD
On the 24th of October after the meeting at University of Manchester, we headed for Sheffield via the National Express. Upon our arrival at Sheffield coach station, we took uber straight to our house. That night we had a small gathering with the Sheffield Malaysian Student Association (SMSA) at broomhall place not far from our place. We get to meet up with the Malaysian students there from different courses and later we had dinner that had been prepared by them. We had some sharing sessions where we talked about our courses and also our experience so far staying in United Kingdom for the first time for nearly all of us. Then at around 10.30 pm, we headed back to our place. The following day after our visit to the University of Sheffield, the boys had a match together with the SMSA and they surely had a lot of fun, while the girls chose to go and visit the city for some nice photos and shopping as usual. The students were very kind to entertained us despite their busy class scheduled. We really appreciate their time that they had spared for us during our 2 days there. Wehope to meet them again real soon, probably back in Malaysia.

We had a session together with the Aerospace Engineering Society (AEROSOC), University of Sheffield which was from 1.00 p.m.-2.00p.m. During this session we were given a short briefing of what the syllabus that the aerospace engineering students there have to take for either BEng or MEng. Whichever the choice is, the first two years of study are the same. The difference would be for BEng it would take you 3 years to complete the course, while for MEng, it would be an additional of one year where the extra year of study will provide you with more specialist engineering knowledge, as well as the extra practical skills and management experience needed for future career in industry. All the courses are accredited by some of the UK’s leading professional engineering institutions. They also shared with us about the AEROSOC itself. Aerosoc is the Aerospace Engineering Departmental Society, which is open to Aerospace Engineering students and those with an interest in the area. They organize industrial visits occasionally, intramural sports and regular socials, as well as providing academic guidance and support. The distinctive different that we can see is that the Aerospace society is open to other courses that seems to have interest in this field of study, with an addition of membership fees, whereas in UPM if you are an aerospace engineering student, you will automatically be an AEROS member without any fees, excluding any activities or events.
